Born Hungary 1900 - Died United States 1978

Gergely (pronounced Gare-gay) is one of the most popular artists from the Little Golden Books series; Tootle, Scuffy the Tugboat, Five Little Firemen… the list goes on. He was a fine artist who also had a perfect style for childrens' book illustration. These colorful pictures are from The Golden Story Treasury by various authors, ©Golden Press 1951.

He is one of our national treasures. The Golden Books had some of the best -- Gergely, Tenggren (sp?), Rojankovsky. Good to see this posting. Now I'll look at the rest of your site!

Thanks! It was fun looking at some of his other work. I recently bought a little Golden Book for my grandson. His dad grew up with the series.
